Text Checker script for checking text on printed circuit boards

A PCB file may contain a lot of text on different layers. Normally, you check this by adjusting the visibility of the layers and text as needed and viewing the design on the screen. This is, of course, the best method, especially for text located on the board itself.

Checking the content of texts is more labor-intensive. For example, if a text contains a PCB’s PDM document number, you have to remember to change it in every instance of that text. Unfortunately, the Find function cannot search for texts based on their content.

What the script does

• Text Checker reads all the “Free Text” sections of the file and lists them in a dialog box.
• It also indicates which texts are outside and inside the viewport. You can enter corner points by clicking the Viewport button or typing them on the keyboard.
• By clicking on the lists, you can add text to the selected items, and at the same time, Layout performs the “Zoom to selection” function.
• You can also import the text and coordinates into Excel.
• You can make the selected text editable in Layout by right-clicking it and selecting ” Properties,” or delete it with the Del key if it is unnecessary.

Installation

The script is saved in the appropriate directory with the extension ` .bas ` and enabled via the “ Tools – Basic Scripts – Basic Scripts ” dialog. It is recommended to set the most frequently used macros to “In Menu” mode, so that they appear in the “ Tools – Basic Scripts ” menu.
